Meta Psychology

Off-topic: My computer died while I had left this piece open before so I don’t have the original paragraph of ideas I was working on, because it didn’t save. So, yeah, here’s a little mourning for myself about the lost original ideas of this text (not that they were very good anyways) but I digress…

The situation is that last week (as in: the week previous of me writing this piece, and not really the “last week” in terms of you the reader reading it), I could attend a supervision with a few psychologists and saw two of them debating about the questions of “Meta Psychology”, or even of what could be said as a “Psychology of Psychology” in parts.

Like, in a sense, how we don’t really talk about the “makings” of psychology per se, but often just take things for granted in certain situations. Nowadays it seems that most of the directions in Psychology have been already “established”, unlike other fields, particular in Technology, especially now with the rise of AI, where each few months theres a new paradigm emerging that totally shifts the onlook of things.

So, then, one part of the discussion was directed towards how exactly it is that we could reflect in the nature of psychology, the development of its methods and possible utilizations and stratification of scenarios. Of course it was more akin to a brainstorming rather than a full blown discussion but it was interesting to see how there seems to be a need for deeper insight into the development of psychological tools when dealing with human distress.

Nowadays, evermore or so I believe, that we seem to be getting ever more on hold with the necessity of focusing our attention spans and intentions, do the old forms of content, and developments in the field, a century old, still apply to the human beings that live in this day and age? Of course I do not have the answers for all of these things, but still i think that pondering about them, and positing them, spreading these considerations to others is a necessary matter.
