Wasted Potential

I won’t remember in details what was the TED talk that I watched, but it went something like this:

The presenter was talking about gaming in general and questioned: “What if we used all of these millions of hours that people spend playing video-games into creating something constructive? What could we done? Which breakthroughts would we reach?”

The figures were somewhere along the millions of hours every single year.

Just before you get nagged about it, no, I won’t be bashing gaming or any other entertainment in general, this is not that. But what I am questioning is, maybe, how much potential are we leaving on the table of humanity, by just doing or “stuff”?

And hell, by no means I am vouching that everyone needs to be scientists or the like, but even so, it has me questioning… What if we as a whole species are just wasting precious potential, in the form of our human-lives-time, that could be used or channeled or directed toward something more serious?

Of course, time is not the only asset in here… Funding goes a long way, money that is, and to a certain degree also knowledge. It seems we would need a certain combination of these and a few elements more to get into terms with certain discoveries. Which are them? I don’t know! What would be their use? I have no idea either. But maybe something shows up and completely revolutionizes things… And the funny thing is, it would peculiarly be found into thoughts and conceptions we have not previously seen before.

It would need some sort of creativity, if you will. And, unfortunately, pretty much that has been happening so far with media in general, especially the “social” side of it, together with entertainment (you name your reels, tiktoks, ig, and what more), and all the rot that’s been taken place… I’ve already talked about it before, so I won’t extensively talk about it again. But there, you see, we are mindlessly getting shucked into a vortex of incomprehensible gibberish that is just toil and mental overload.

I say that people (the higher ups) want progress, but progress on what terms? Progress that would inevitably provide better institutions for everyone? Wouldn’t that too count as a peril and possible shift of power? I don’t know, but it gets me, if everything that we are facing so far is not just a mere coincidence, but more of an orchestrated direction somehow, to make dumb and dumber even more so, melting our minds with information overload and throwing the time spend of our lives out of the window, when we also get sick and tortured because of the corporative world.

The wasted potential lies in time, our effort and the directions we are going in, I believe. And why? I guess because most of the people, we are only selfish. We are barely looking onward to solve our own problems, who can say, even more, thinking about solving or helping with the problems of others? Of society as a whole, our civilization in parts?

Then, it begs the question, where in the first place should or could we look into, for seeking change?

I know it will sould cliché, you might expect for me to say “inwards”, and to a certain degree that is true… But on the other hand, also look outwards, not only focusing on yourself, and your hurt, but that of others and what they might be going through. Not just psychically, emotionally, but as we maybe live in a material world, physically too.

Cars reinvented the ways in which we move, the internet, I will not even name the artificial dumbshit which is all the hype right now, but all of these things, were an effort of people going through and inventing things.

Unfortunately it seems that our endeavours with self-gratification are cutting these things short, I think, very short.

Maybe a thought and a distinction is something we need to get going and steer into different directions?

I don’t know.

Maybe some of you do.

In any case, this is food for thought.

Good seeing you around.

I’m out.

Paece.
